7 Summer Essentials for 2015

by Jasmine McNenny on Aug 01, 2015

There are some things that really only work for the warm-weather season. For many of us, this means waiting for those few precious months of summer to break out the designer shades, floppy beach hat, and bejeweled strappy sandal. But aside from sunny days and balmy evenings, summer brings us a few other seasonal treats like farmers’ market cornucopias, highly anticipated movie releases, and the latest and greatest technology.

So with the season already half over, there is limited time to embrace these summer ’15 essentials. Whether it’s your style, taste, or interest, summer 2015 will be fondly remembered for…

  • Floppy Hats

No surprise here, all styles of floppy hats are the perfect warm-weather accessory. Whether at the beach or just out enjoying the sun, a wide-brim hat is both practical and fashionable - plus who doesn’t like the intrigue and glamour of a 1940’s Cartwheel?

  • Patterned Shorts

A trend for both men and women, bold patterned shorts and pants are adding even more color to the summer season. The eye-catching ensembles are easy to spot – the guy with the graphic print chino shorts or the girl with the primary color geometric harem pant. Love it or not, this style is here to stay a least a little longer with designers incorporating more bold prints into their fall collections.

  • Fruit Infused Water

If you're looking for a way to keep cool, nothing does it quite like ice-cold water with a kick of fruit flavor. There are many options for an easy way to make fruit infused water - you can get portable bottles great for travel and daily use, as well as larger containers that can be used at parties and get-togethers. Whether you're into citrus flavored water, cucumber water, or like to make a mix of all kinds of ingredients, there's a thirst-quenching option that'll make the summer heat more bearable.

  • Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches

Yes! The cupcake craze of recent years had been tempered by the popularity of this classic summer treat. From gourmet versions using French cream puffs and peach bourbon ice cream to innovative re-workings like the ice cream sandwich cake, this new trend is the perfect combination of nostalgia and deliciousness.

  • Bold Sunglasses

A necessity for summer’s sunny days, sunglasses have come a long way in their design and ability to make a statement. This season's trend — sunglasses as unique as you. Go all out with bright mirrored lenses, floral- frames, or even retro styles.

  • Clutch Purses

These compact purses are great for a summer night out on the town. This year's popular styles include a hand strap or wrist band, so you can make sure your purse is secure. Pack up your essentials for happy hour or a dinner date in a stylish clutch and head on out!

  • A Great Book

There's nothing like lounging on the beach or in a hammock with a good read. Whether or not you’re a fan, you’ve undoubtedly heard about Harper Lee’s first novel, and high school English class essential, To Kill a Mockingbird. Now nearly 55 years after the first, Harper Lee has released the long-lost novel Go Set a Watchmen. The book has stirred unmeasurable amounts of controversy due to its strong racial themes, but regardless of whether it’s finally deemed good or bad, it’s all anyone will be talking about.
